Canvas Floater Frames & Tray Frames made to your specifications
We specialise in making tray frames for canvases or dibond/ aluminium panels from a variety of solid woods such as oak, walnut, maple, tulip, beech, ash, pine, wenge. Depending on your specifications, we can make these to any profile dimensions (front face width x depth), as well as accommodating wide gaps around the canvas.
We can also frame canvases that are already stretched but can also re-stretch onto various wooden profiles as well as wooden-aluminium composite museum rims, which are particularly good for very large canvases. Large tray frames can be made using museum standard rims in sizes up to 6m x 6m, but would need to stretch them on-site because of space reasons. The largest canvases we can stretch in the workshop are generally around 2.5m x 1.5m. Please contact us for exact details. Stretched canvases can be displayed with or without a frame.
We often make very deep tray frames using a two-part process and lap-join the two parts together, hiding the join behind the frame.
Your tray and floater frame can be sprayed to match any RAL code, Dulux or Farrow and Ball colour with matt, satin or gloss finishes.
Frame costs are priced by metre of circumference but we calculate these to the mm so you only pay for what you get. Prices are exclusive of VAT.
Stretcher Rims
Standard Stretcher Rims
Made from finger-jointed knot-free pine in a variety of different depths. Stretching canvases on standard wooden rims up to A1 size cost £55 per finished metre. Above this size going up to £65 per metre for stretcher rims over 1.2m x 1.5m. Both include strengthening batons.
Museum Stretcher Rims
Available in depths of 25mm and 40mm. Largest size is 6m x 6m. POA.

Standard Tray Profiles 1
Front face 10mm, side measurement 32mm and inside space is 22mm. Available in white or black woodgrain finish. £70 per finished metre.
Standard Tray Profiles 2
Front face 14mm, side measurement 32mm and inside space 22mm. Smooth almost matt finish but with a touch of satin. £70 per finished metre.
Standard Tray Profiles 3
Front face 15mm, side measurement 50mm and inside space 40mm. Available in white or black. Woodgrain finish shown here. Also available in a smooth finish. £85 per finished metre.

Front face 26mm, side measurement 50mm and inside space 40mm. Available in white or black woodgrain finish. £100 per finished metre.

Solid Wood Tray Profiles
Solid Wood 1
The most common tray profiles we use in solid wood have a 12mm front face, 40mm side measurement, which gives a 30mm internal measurement. Photo shows, from left to right, Tulip wood, clear wax finish, Limed Tulip, waxed Lime wood and waxed Oak. All the finishes shown on the Hand Finished frame page can also be made into tray frames. We can mill tray frames with almost any profile dimensions. A front face width of 5mm is normally the thinnest we can go. If you don’t see what you need please contact us.
Solid Wood 2
If your canvas does not fit we can either re-stretch it onto a shallower rim or custom mill you a profile to perfectly fit your requirements. This photo shows a solid oak profile, 15mm front face, 90mm side measurement, which gives a 75mm internal space for the canvas, which we milled for a client. Fancy Tray Profiles
Komodo
Profile dimensions are 40mm front face, 57mm side measurement and a 47mm internal space. Colours Black, Red, Celedron, Ivory. Finish is smooth, glossy, with darker detailing which give these moulds a high-end distressed look. £140 per finished metre.
Sun 1
Profile dimensions 17mm front face, 53mm side measurement and a 42mm internal space. Colours are Black, Gold, White, Bronze, Silver, Pewter. Finish is smooth metallic foil with fine line detailing on the inner and outer edge of the front face. £145 per finished metre.
